On Saturday, April 9, the Women’s Ministry of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, along with First Lady Tracy Hudson hosted its 6th annual prayer breakfast. The theme was “Keep Praying, P.U.S.H – Pray Until Something Happens!” First Lady Hudson stressed that it is important with all the issues facing us that we come together in prayer for our homes, our families, our churches, communities, our countries and our world.
The prayer breakfast began at 9 a.m. with praise, worship, and devotion by the F.M.B.C. Praise Team. Mistress of Ceremony Deaconess Vinnie Andrews opened the program and Deaconess Faye Mass offered the opening prayer and the blessing of the food. The members and guests feasted on a catered brunch featuring many delicious items. The program continued with a prayer for pastors and wives led by Chaplain Jesse Esquivel. Numerous other prayers were offered including those by Rhonda Wilson, and first ladies Ronnie Petrie and Ericka Jackson.
The event’s featured speaker was Elder Elaine Rose Penn who was called into ministry as a young girl in her father’s church in Baltimore. She now serves under the leadership of Bishop Alexis Thomas, of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, and is the author of several books, including her newest novel, Mary of Magdalene: Out of Whom Came Seven Devils, which is soon to be published.
Minister Penn delivered a stirring message entitled “Do It Like Jesus Did It” basing her sermon on the text in Matthew 21:18-22. She asserted, “Your problems are in your mouth when (we) speak negatively against your family, your kids, and your home.” She also preached that we need to have dominion over our homes, and watch the words our children speak and whom they emulate so they do not bring evil into our homes. Minister Penn closed her message with the reminder that God has given us the authority to speak, and if we pray with a genuine faith God will back what you say and give you the blessing you need.
