The Miss Arizona Scholarship Pageant and the Miss Arizona’s Outstanding Teen Scholarship will crown their 2016 winners following a series of competition activities at the Mesa Center for the Arts on June 25th. Among the talented number of contestants is Juanita Rogers, the current Miss Maricopa County. Rogers, a homegrown talent, is vying to become the second African American to wear the sash and crown in Arizona history.

“I am honored to compete and to have worn the title of Miss Maricopa County,” said Rogers a 2014 University of Arizona graduate with an undergraduate degree in public health.

Rogers reports she was attracted to the pageant by the goals and mission of the organization. The Miss Arizona Scholarship Organizations is a 501c3 non-profit foundation that encourages young women to be active participants in their communities. While most individuals will see the heading Miss. or Ms. and think immediately of beauty pageant, Rogers says all the contestants are not only beautiful but also very intelligent, ambitious and focused on making a difference in their respective communities.

“This is really about more than a swimsuit competition, we are engaged in and really going through a series of tough questions, talent presentations, and outreach efforts. A person really has to work for the title. I am excited, a bit nervous and thrilled to be involved. My particular community outreach is to find viable ways to feed and ensure children receive their proper daily nourishment,” shared the Grand Canyon University graduate student who is continuing her studies in public health.

“I really believe I will be able to make a difference in communities local and throughout the state,” said Rogers who for the present is focused on the immediate challenge at hand. That would include winning the 2016 Miss Arizona crown.
