On Saturday, March 12, Willow Grove Baptist Church Women’s Ministry will begin celebration of the annual women’s weekend with a Banquet Bazaar to be held at the Verna McClain Center, 1030 E Baseline Rd. in Phoenix. Chef Larry Canepa, 40-year instructor at the renowned Scottsdale Culinary Institute has planned a menu that will tantalize the most discriminating palate.
The Banquet Bazaar will kick-off at noon featuring a vendor’s pavilion. To date, there are 12 vendor’s confirmed, each offering a variety of items for purchase; or, free samples. The banquet will begin at 1:00 p.m. This will be the fourth banquet bazaar that Willow Grove has presented. The last event was held in 2011.
This event will be fun, festive, and “Spirit” filled say the organizers. The banquet speaker will be Reverend MarQuerita Story, formerly Minister of Children, Youth and Young Adults at First Institutional Baptist Church where she served from 1999-2000. She is a graduate of The American Baptist Seminary of the West, University of California at Berkeley where she has earned a Master’s Degree of Divinity. She was ordained into the Gospel Ministry by Dr. Warren H. Stewart, Sr., in 2004. She continues to serve faithfully in ministry, currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. Reverend Story will also be the Annual Women’s Day preacher for the 11a.m., service March 13 at Willow Grove, 4401 S 7th Place, Phoenix, this year’s theme: “Courage for This Journey,” Philippians 1:6-14.
Willow Grove has been servicing the spiritual needs of the Phoenix community since 1929. Over that 87 year span the church has always recognized the valuable contributions and service that women faithfully render. Pastor Milton Pleasant remarked: “I stand on tiptoe anticipation of what God will do through the women of Willow Grove. It will be a day of dynamic preaching and Spirit filled worship.”
