GAME OF THE WEEK

Electrifying ambiance. The Highland Hawks stadium had a deafening buzz coming from the entire student body suited up and face painted, anticipating this newly found rivals match up between powerhouse Basha Bears. Both teams coming into this contest putting their undefeated record on the line.
It was Highland who broke the seal first with a 30 yard touchdown run and a failed two-point conversion 6-0. Basha took its first poss down the field to score on 20-yard passing play 7-6. Highland scored again on its second poss on a five-yard catch that went 25 yards for a touchdown 13-7.
Before halftime Basha put together an impressive drive starting from their own 20 yrd line ending it wit a 10-yard rushing touchdown going into the locker room leading 14-13. Buzz still in the air, Hawks stadium sound system pumping “Sweet Caroline” (ba ba ba), flew out onto the field with their talons sharpened up awaiting the second half kickoff.
Highland with great field position went to their air assault completing passes all over the field on the Bears. Player of the Game #1 DB Miles Lockhart Basha, was hibernating throughout most of the contest, yawned and stretched coming up with a pivotal touchback interception ending any momentum and hope for the Highland Hawks to remain undefeated. Bears’ claws were obviously sharper never looked back taking complete control over the game, scoring on a third quarter touchdown run 21-13, and on an extremely rare made field goal late in the fourth quarter 24-13.
Hawks caged and plucked were unable to soar after halftime, repeatedly turning the ball over which kept them out of the end zone. Once again bringing to truth that second half of high school football games are unpredictable and entertaining. Basha Bears proved to be one of the east Valley’s powerhouse football teams beat- ing previous unblemished Highland Hawks. Bears now enjoying a perfect 8-0 record.
