GAME OF THE WEEK

By Shelby Thryll Hill

It was Senior Night at Tempe High and all across the state of Arizona. We applaud, congratulate and thank all you Seniors for your four years of hard work, dedication and unwavering school spirit.

Tempe’s stadium decorated with balloons and streamers to celebrate their last home game of the sea- son – had a festive feeling. The rumbling coming from tha Buffalos locker room was equally as impressive as the Tempe’s marching band, loud and proud playing their hearts out leading up to kickoff. Out burst the Buffalos, stampeding to field, circling the wagon ready for action.

PLAYER OF THE GAME – Isaiah Savoie had more than 200 all-purpose yards and a 15-yard touchdown reception to propel his team to a comfortable 6-2 record.

Tempe received the opening kickoff and immediately ran into an opposing force, unable to blaze a trail with several three and outs and turnovers. That’s when the Prospectors outfitted with only a pickax and shovel uncovered touchdowns on almost every dig, scoring on five out of seven first half possessions… courtesy of the outstanding all-purpose performance by the Player of the Game: #1 RB Isaiah Savoie, of Apache Junction.

Savoie led his team into halftime up 34-0. Buffalos teams replacing each other, infused a second-half excitement only fit for football. Tempe took its second half possession deep into Apache Junction’s territory trying to stampede into the end zone but turned the ball over again, giving the Prospectors another chance at gold.

Savoie added the final touchdown for his team, putting them up 41-0 early in the fourth quarter. The Buffalos, stampeding till the end, finally made it inside the Corral bringing the ending score to a respectable 41-7.

Apache Junction headed east on Interstate 60 with a bag full of Tempe’s gold, improving their playoff chances and record to 6-2.
