Special to the Informant

Jazz Appreciation Month April is fast approaching. The International Jazz Day AZ Foundation, which will host several events during the month, also is focusing on visual art. Year after year, the Jazz Day AZ Competition gives artists the oppor- tunity to showcase their art at the annual Jazz Day AZ Festival.

This year’s winner, Ahmed Cannon, will showcase his work at the Westin Kierland Resort Scottsdale Jazz Festival’s Premier Party April 29 as well at the Scottsdale Jazz Festival April 30, International Jazz Day.

Numerous outstanding contemporary artists from around the country competed for the opportunity to showcase their work. Praises and congratulations extend to all the artists who entered the competition, which was in association with ONYX Gallery.

“International Jazz Day AZ Foundation is honored to present Ahmed inspiring contributions to the world of art at this year’s Scottsdale Jazz Festival,” Jones said.

“It hands down was the best work presented in 2022,” said Jones of Cannon’s painting, which is of jazz saxophonist Buddy Tate..

The painting will be auctioned off April 30, at Scottsdale Jazz Festival; all proceeds will go toward scholarships to the Molina School of Jazz Summer Music Program.
