The 21st annual Arizona African- American Legislative and Leadership Conference presented by American commission of African American Affairs is underway. This year, the longstanding event coincided with the activities of Super Bowl LVII. The conference’s kickoff event – hosted by Kim Covington of Arizona Community Foundation in association with NFL Black History Month – was the Social Justice Town Hall, held at Arizona State University Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in downtown Phoenix.

The panelists were: Lorenzo Alexander, former NFL linebacker;; Dr. Chelsea Hayward, of the Players Coalition, research associate at Morehouse College and branding and digital media manager; Dr. Lance McCarthy, economist and investment advisor; and Isabel Redmond, of ASU Gymnastics. Dr. David Wall Rice – author, professor of psychology at Morehouse College, and principle investigator of the Identity, Art and Democracy Lab – served as moderator.

Welcoming the sold-out crowd were Hon. Leah Landrum-Taylor, conference chair and interim director of the Commission and Kim Dartez, chair of the Commission.
